the problem is that you are liable if the item turns out to be forged, stolen, or simply completely fake. don't take checks from people you don't know and have done business with before. if you're new to international trade, insist on wire transfers and/or trade acceptances. Ask your banker for details.

It can take approximately anywhere from 30-45 days. Unless, the UK system is slower... it should be the same. I know that if you deposit a foreign item into a U.S bank, it takes about that timeframe for it to clear the foreign bank. Hope it helps! I work in a bank, thats how I know
