If a check is due to clear on January 12, does that mean at 1 minute past midnight on Jan 12th?

Or does it mean at another specific time, like after 7 am or after noon? I am waiting on a particular check that my bank said will clear on Jan 12th. But what time on Jan 12th?If a check is due to clear on January 12, does that mean at 1 minute past midnight on Jan 12th?
Call the bank and ask them what time they begin clearing checks each day.

Mine starts at 3pm everyday, except weekends, of course.

I've never heard of a check clearing right after midnight. Try not to worry...it most likely will not even clear until afternoon sometime. Good Luck!If a check is due to clear on January 12, does that mean at 1 minute past midnight on Jan 12th?

Depends on the work load...you are not the only one waiting.
Check with your bank - it varies from bank to bank. Most will update anywhere from midnight to 6am.
It will probably clear around the start of the business day on the 12th (8am or 9am) but even that is not a guarantee it can depend on a lot of things. It should be before 3:00pm as banks go to the next business day's date at that time. If you have access to online banking my only advice would be to keep checking your account activity to see if its cleared.
This is a ';depends on the bank'; question. The Federal Reserve regulation that covers this is Regulation CC.

This regulation states that any item that is brought to a bank for deposit may be subjected to hold based on the location, origin and type of deposit. On-Us and cash deposits must be made available by the start of the business day after the day in wich the deposit falls. If the item is a local check then it must be available by 5 PM on the third business day after the day in which the deposit falls. IF the check is a non-local check, meaning it is from a different state of federal reserve district, then the item will be made available by 5 PM on the sixth business day after the date of deposit. All these time frames are based on the standing of the account in which the deposit is made, the verification of the deposit, and the size of the deposit. in any case all deposits must be made available by 5 PM on the 12th business day after the deposit. Mind you that is the latest times, it can happen any time sooner depending once again on the bank that you use.
Best to just wait until Jan 14 or 15.

Everyone should have at least 2 months extra pay in their account so you dont need it right away.
