How long does it take a bank check to clear?

I received a check of $400 from the bank of america. I need this money for Christmas. If I deposit it tomorrow in a different bank when will it clear? I live in Massachusetts. Or could I just go to a bank of America and cash it, even if I don't have an account there? thanks in advance..How long does it take a bank check to clear?
It is better to go to BOA to cash the check,. BOA will cash the check if the funds are in the account, if the funds are not in the account then they will let you know. If you deposit in your account they may not give you the money right away and will have to wait until it clears the bank.


You don't have to have an account at BOA to cash the check.


Any check cashed at the bank it is from you don't need an account. For example if the check were to be from Capital One you don't have to have an account with Cap One to cash the check.

they may charge a non customer FEE unless the account holder pays it (that is determined when they opened the account)
The best thing you could do is go to bank of america and cash it.


You could deposit it your checking and it would take up to 5 days.
