Maximum time for a check to clear?
My husband wrote me a check that I deposited, via the ATM at my credit union on Nov 18. That check then cleared his account on Nov 24 - which makes sense because it would take a little time for someone to take the deposits from the ATM, process them and then route the Check21 info to my husband's bank to debit from his account. But he also wrote me a check that I deposited at the same ATM on Nov 20 and while again the credit was immediate on my account (which it should be) his account has never been debited for that check - it is now Dec 8! So the first check took 5 business days to clear but it's been 14 business days and still the debit has not appeared on my husband's account. It's like they lost the check or something? If you can prove that the fees would not have otherwise been in exsistence then yes, I would show him/her the fees and tell your boss you need them to be reimburst in full by cashiers check from him/her... (I would record the conversation so you have something for court...) and I also would tell your ';boss'; to only pay you by cashiers checks so you know this won't happen again... and if there is a huge problem with this and your boss becomes an issue I would find another job (either way I would), if your boss won't fix it then take him to small claims court and bring all your proof and also make sure to include court costs to sure him for, because if (and he will) he is found to be responsible for them all then he will be able to be responsible for the court costs... if this happened for months then the judge may say you should have noticed, if it was a few weeks you may get it all your way...
You might get a judge to see it your way. At least the initial fee, but since you freely admit you let it get worse, probably not all.
But, here is your reality check, your boss is on the verge of bankruptcy and if he can't cover your paycheck, he isn't paying payroll taxes either.
By the time you get to court I imagine that there won't be any money left to get out of him.

I'm not a lawyer but it would seem to me that a relationship that exists between employer and employee is the tacit guarantee that you will work for that person whatever hours that you mutually agree to and that the company will pay you whatever wages were mediated upon signing up with that company. Given that, if you have met your obligation and worked those hours, the employer has the obligation to pay whatever wages you mutually agreed upon. It seems to me that you might have a breech of contract because he did not pay you the wages that were owed to you, even if he didn't know that the check was going to bounce. Check with your lawyer on this.

I was just looking at my daily online banking and saw that my check for security for my apartment didn't clear. I was stupid and thought that they had already cashed it since I wrote the check all the way back on August 22. I get paid on Friday and will be able to hand them a money order. Two weeks is excessive for a check that is drawn on a bank local to the point of deposit - although Reg CC does allow holds of this length for new accounts and for cause (accounts that have excessive overdrafts, check is suspicious for some reason) - it is a long time.
Going to BNY for cash isn't the safest idea - traveling, risk of loss, etc.
I would suggest if you will be getting this type of check repeatedly, open your checking account at BNY and do your banking through them - no hold on the big check from them, the likely have online banking, bank by mail, telephone banking - ways that you won't have to use the branch network.
OR - ask if you can exchange the check you have for a BNY ';Official Check'; - sometimes called cashier's check, or teller check - basically, you exchange the check from the loan provider for one that is written on the BNY checkbook. Likely you will have to go to the branch for that, and the will likely charge a modest fee. An official check should clear your bank much quicker - most often the next business day - check with the teller or better yet the teller manager as to the specific rules there for holds on official checks.
For the future, can the loan provider transfer your funds to you by direct deposit? no holds, and no travel if they can.Waiting on check to clear-Any Advice Please?
I don't know if you can walk out with 20k, but if you could go to a BNY, if I were you I'd open an account, put the money in, it ought to be available immediately, and then you could write smaller checks off of it that would probably clear faster.
Most banks will clear checks under a certain amount (maybe $5k) fairly quickly, particularly if they know you, with the exception of Bank of America which insists on 5 days regardless.
You'll probably have to wait 5 business days to clear no matter where you are, unless you have a long relationship with your current bank, but two weeks seems excessive.
In theory, though, you might be able to get 20k at once.
Don't do that. Too much stress to carry cash with you and your bank will have to do a Currency Transaction Reporting for cash amounts of over $10,001 deposited into your bank account. Have your bank call the drawee bank after a couple of days. They should be able to clarify if the funds have cleared the drawee account. Upon the confirmation, the bank manager should be able to make an exception and waive the hold for you.
Two weeks is excessive for a check that is drawn on a bank local to the point of deposit - although Reg CC does allow holds of this length for new accounts and for cause (accounts that have excessive overdrafts, check is suspicious for some reason) - it is a long time.
Going to BNY for cash isn't the safest idea - traveling, risk of loss, etc.
I would suggest if you will be getting this type of check repeatedly, open your checking account at BNY and do your banking through them - no hold on the big check from them, the likely have online banking, bank by mail, telephone banking - ways that you won't have to use the branch network.
OR - ask if you can exchange the check you have for a BNY ';Official Check'; - sometimes called cashier's check, or teller check - basically, you exchange the check from the loan provider for one that is written on the BNY checkbook. Likely you will have to go to the branch for that, and the will likely charge a modest fee. An official check should clear your bank much quicker - most often the next business day - check with the teller or better yet the teller manager as to the specific rules there for holds on official checks.

I don't know if you can walk out with 20k, but if you could go to a BNY, if I were you I'd open an account, put the money in, it ought to be available immediately, and then you could write smaller checks off of it that would probably clear faster.
Most banks will clear checks under a certain amount (maybe $5k) fairly quickly, particularly if they know you, with the exception of Bank of America which insists on 5 days regardless.

Don't do that. Too much stress to carry cash with you and your bank will have to do a Currency Transaction Reporting for cash amounts of over $10,001 deposited into your bank account. Have your bank call the drawee bank after a couple of days. They should be able to clarify if the funds have cleared the drawee account. Upon the confirmation, the bank manager should be able to make an exception and waive the hold for you.

you should make sure the check was legitimate. It may clear your bank now, but in a few weeks the bank may realize it was a phony check, and then will want the money back from you.
You are. In certain cases the checks come back as a fraud many months after it has cleared. When it comes back the account where the check is cleared is the one that will be held responsible and the one the bank will come after for repayment.

You are. In certain cases the checks come back as a fraud many months after it has cleared. When it comes back the account where the check is cleared is the one that will be held responsible and the one the bank will come after for repayment.

Even though we share a border, a check drawn from a bank in Canada is still considered to be international. Most banks state that it may take 10-15 business days, which translates to as long as three weeks. When I clear temp. files. I log into the admin. account. then click Start, All programs, Accessories, system tools, disk cleanup, Files from all users, select C: ( C drive). If he is right you pay him and if he is wrong then you turn over the profits of that week and give him the machine back.

If there were no charges filed and you have no convictions you will pass the courthouse record check, which is all that is done in most cases. However, if applying for a more sensitive job, such as LE, upon knowing where you have lived, someone can request a copy of all police reports where you are named, so you could still be explaining why you were in a suspicious situation. When filling out a job application just always be truthful.

Any run in with the police at all goes on your record and will show up on a CORY check. Even if you were arrested and the charges were dismissed, or continued without a finding, or if you were put on probabtion. it is on your record for the rest of your life.

You can also chart your basal body temperature and/or use OPKs to help determine when and if you're ovulating.

First of all, recognize this as a gift as anyone needing to borrow money from a friend rather than a bank has a history of not paying back loans. It would be better to draw up a seperate document. Simply writing loan on the check would not sufficiently protect you; i.e., when would it be due, what are the payments, is interest being charged, etc.

It would be better to draw up a seperate document. Simply writing loan on the check would not sufficiently protect you; i.e., when would it be due, what are the payments, is interest being charged, etc.

Dont you know you never do busn. with friends and or family cardinal rule #1!!! Now if you plan to still loan money to your friend dont expect to get it back. You could end up loosing your friend. Let him or her find a different way.
Piece of advice - never loan a friend money! If you insist on doing so, get an agreement in place between yourselves, so if there are any disagreements you can legally ensure you still get your money back.....
Write For: loan on the bottom of the check, and make him sign an agreement to pay you back. If it is a large amount and you really want/need it back, specify a certain amount of time. I have some close friends that I would not make do this, but I have been burned in the past. If you don't trust them, its best to have the agreement.

That goes to bank policy in most cases. However they may hold the funds for up to 10 business days. Most will not do that but I would count on at least 5 business days before ALL funds are available.
They are required to make the first 100.00 available on any check deposit within 24 hours. After that it goes to their policies as to the amount of time to hold the funds.

I had this EXACT same problem!
Check the heating element. It could have been damaged and needs to be replaced. When the heating element doesn't work, it won't heat the air and it takes forever to ';air'; dry your clothes. You can call Sears and have someone check it out if you don't know how to do it yourself. I believe you have to turn it on it's side because it's on the bottom. You can check the vents first to be sure that isn't the problem.

I would first look outside where the dryer vents out. If the flaps are covered with lint, clean it out. If it's still doing it then you'll have to remove the back tubing on the dryer (silver usually) and clean it out. If it's still doing it, perhaps your washer is not wringing it out enough or you have put too much in the dryer.
If nothing works I'd consider getting a new dryer.

Clear any blockage with a long wire or hose, make sure and get everything out. If there is no blockage, and you have an electric dryer, one of the heat elements is out. Have you tried cleaning your lint trap with hot, soapy water and letting it thoroughly dry before replacing it? If you use dryer sheets they actually leave an invisible film on your lint trap that prevents the air from getting through. Many dryers have actually started on fire from this very thing. Just a quick, cheap option to check before spending a lot to have a repair man come out. Hope it helps!
