Add a quart or 2 of oil. If it says check oil it needs checked. its just checked gage light if it comes on are you going to post on yahoo how to turn it off or are you going to check em?How to clear the check oil light on a 2001 chevy silverado?
id go with nathan
Nathan H received a thumbs down, but he is 100% correct. I have a 2000 and the manual will tell you the same thing. And that is how I clear mine after it tells me a oil change is needed... and yes I changed the oil.

By the way.. when the light comes on, it may just mean it is time to change the oil... and yes the manual will tell you that also.
Disconnect the battery
That is easy. This go's for all GM made cars.

1. Turn the key into the on position so that the electricity turns on, but not the engine.

2. Next, puch the gas pedal down all the way 4 times and hold it down on the fourth time.

3. Make sure you are holding it down on the fourth time you push the gas pedal, and check the dash where the check engine or check oil light is.

4. Let go of gas pedal when light disappears. Light should reset after 10 seconds. Some reset in 3 seconds.

5. After 10 seconds, start the car and the light will be gone, unless you need another oil change.
there are a lot of things that will turn the 'check engine ' light on.run a diagnostic on it. to find out which one is on. if no codes come out they can tell you how to turn the light of.
