2 weeks at the most. How long does it take for a 10,000 check to clear?
It can clear in 5 business days, however some banks may put a hold on part of it. The first time I deposited a check over 10,000 a certain amount was available immediately and then the rest would be available half in 5 days and the balance 5 days later.
If you have that amount in your account, some banks (mine does) will make it available to you that same day.How long does it take for a 10,000 check to clear?
atleast 10 business days
Call and ask. I had a 12000 check before and it cleared in 3 to 4 days.
Depends on the bank it goes through. Different ones have different times and setups.
Same length as any check.
I't totally depends on where you got it from. Out of state... 3 days, out of Country? 1 week. I usually get out of US checks cleared in a week or less.
woahh!! mucho dinero!!
give me some..
about a week i think...
It takes about 15 days! now if you were to take it to the bank, where it came from, such as bank of America back east your in cali, they're cash it for 0! Now i think your bank won't charge you but they might!
MAYBE a week or 2.
It usually take around the same time as any other check would. 10,000 is a lot of money these days.
Ditto on what others have said. If you are the one who wrote the check you might also contact your bank to make sure they haven't placed a hold on it for security purposes. Sometimes they will do this if they think it looks like a suspicious or unusually large amount (like if you are making a large one-time purchase and don't normally write large sum checks.) Its always a good idea to let your bank know if you are making a large purchase or recieving a large amount of money.
There are alot of factors in the mix. First is it a personal check? Out of town check? Credit Card check? Did your bank give you an indication as to if there was a hold on the funds and if so they should have given you a date.
Sorry I can't be more helpful but all of the above will play into the hold time.
WOW...you got A LOT of wrong answers here!
Banks follow a law called Reg CC and it states exactly how long they are required to hold checks for before they allow you to have the money.
For a $10k check that is drawn off a non local bank (meaning they use a different federal reserve branch than your bank...this is the category most checks fall under) your bank would make the 1st $100 available to you (there are specific instances that would allow the bank not to do this but unless you meet the criteria they will make the $100 available). After that the next $4900 would recieve a 5 to 7 business day hold after which they would make $4900 available. The next $5000 would be held for up to 11 business days. So the total amount should be available in your account by the 11th business day after deposit.
Banks can put a longer hold on the check if they feel for some reason the check is fradulent or might not clear (with the high amounts of fraud going on right now it is a good possibility that your bank might require an extended hold).
Now this just tells you how long your bank will hold the check for...it can actually take between 7 and 28 days for a check to be returned as non sufficent funds to your bank. It just depends on where the check is drawn off and how your bank and their bank processes checks. This is why it is such a draw back for banks to only be able to put 11 business day hold on checks because it takes longer than that for the checks to come back as bad...and usually by then the customer has spent all of the money thinking that because the bank was REQUIRED BY LAW to make the funds available in the customers account that the check was good.
Another big drawback for banks is that 99% of banks will not verify checks or accounts anymore due to the amount of fraud out there. What happens is someone calls and gives an account number and a dollar amount of a check they recieved and they want to know if the check will clear...what they are really doing is they have stolen bank account information and they are verifying that the information they have is correct...so banks quit verifying information over the phone. So now one bank can't really call and verify a check from another bank.
PS...remember that it does not matter the names of the banks or where they are located...BoA might use a federal reserve branch in Ohio and Chase might use one in California...checks clear fast if your bank uses the same fed branch as the bank the check is drawn off...if they don't use the same fed branch it takes longer for the check to clear.
If is within the US I guess a week.
Who cares how long it takes............youre getting 10,000 !
Cheers :)
the same amount of time your bank takes to clear a 1 dollar check
Not sure but if you like you can deposit it in my account and while we wait for it to clear you can try to figure out how many licks to get to the center of a Tootsie Roll pop.
