How long does it take a check to clear?

If you write a check at Walmart how long does it take to clear through a bank? I have a deposit coming in on Wednesday @12 am and I was wondering if I wrote a check on Tuesday like at @2pm would it go through before my deposit? How long does it take a check to clear?
Yes it would, Walmart has a debit system, for checks %26amp; if you do not have the money when you write the check, it will decline the transaction. as insufficient funds. Seen it happen at 2 different Walmarts The day before Christmas to 2 different people*How long does it take a check to clear?
If you're unsure, don't do it.

Most banks are now functioning under Check 21 which is electronic checking. It does not take long for merchants to determine if your check is good or not. Some retailers can deny you at the register if the computer determines insufficient funds.

As for the direct deposits, are your deposits at exactly 12 a.m.? You have to take into consideration the holidays. January 1 may not be considered a business day so the deposit may actually go in before or after the 1st.

I would check on this to be sure before you write any checks unless you have an Overdraft Protection set up with your checking account. No additional fees is worth it.
Walmart has a automatic system that converts checks into ACHs (automatic withdrawals) when you write them. So it pretty much goes through the same night. A lot of it depends on how your bank handles the ACHs. Some banks will process them through the same night; some on the next night. You also have to be careful of policy changes.

My bank just switched from using the posted date as the processed date to using the transaction initiated date as the processed date...which bounced three transactions for me. To explain further...I had initiated three transactions over the computer on (let's say) 11/23. Previously, they would have gone through on 11/24 and I would have had until 8pm on the 24th to deposit further funds to cover them without any problems. Now, the money had better be there on the 23rd or they will bounce Does that help any?
You should have no problem.

Just make sure you go to the bank where you have your account and ask them to post it right away. They should do that for you.

Checks can take from 2-7 days to clear. It all depends where the bank is located. In your own town it will be faster. If you write a check and it is going to a bank in MA it can take much longer. You can always call and find out.

Be careful writing a check before money is in the account. Things can always happen to delay the deposit and then you can be overdrawn. It happens all the time (sick, broken leg, unexpected company, your boss is late etc).
walmart processes checks electronically so it will hit your bank as soon as it opens and the transaction is processed. if this time is before your deposit posts and is available, your bank will charge a NSF fee if you dont have funds to cover. if you have overdraft protection, you still get charged a fee, but the difference is your check will not bounce.
I am in Springfield, Illinois. When I shop at Wal Mart my check goes through the bank immediately. Its the system they use %26amp; have used it for 3 + years here.....

If you don't have the money in the bank your check will not clear at the check out, sorry.

In my town it doesn't matter when the check is written, the funds come out right then...I was at Wal Mart last Sunday, wrote a check, came home %26amp; pulled up by bank account online %26amp; the payment had posted.
Anywhere from 1-10 days.

If you write it before 3 pm, it might clear that day, as that is usually the cut off time.
It all depends. I've written a check at Wal-Mart and had it clear by the time I got home and checked my online account. Wal-Mart usually does electronic checking, which is faster.
it could but that is very risky..u should try to organize things a little better next time u can always call the bank
