How long does it take for a hand written check to clear?

I want to make sure the bank the check was written on clears so I can use the funds. I'm not convinced it was a good check and the bank it was written on was in another state so I just deposited it into my account. How many days should I wait or is there another way to determine it cleared?How long does it take for a hand written check to clear?
Banks put up to 14 day holds on out of state checks. I would wait at least that long to spend the money.





Next time call the bank the check was written from and ask for funds availability. They will tell you if there is money in the account.How long does it take for a hand written check to clear?
